quilting series: free- motion mastery with RaNae Merrill

Join free-motion quilting expert and author RaNae Merrill for a special full day intensive free motion quilting workshop.  RaNae is a professional quilter who travels the country year round teaching her method for mastering free-motion quilting.

In class, RaNae will teach you free-motion quilting via a graduated series of body motion, tracing and drawing exercises in order to build skill upon skill, pattern upon pattern.  This method embeds muscle memory and hand-eye coordination needed for comfortable and successful free-motion quilting.

During class you will quilt three blocks that you can finish into a wall hanging or add them to more blocks at home to finish a complete quilt. 

You will see an instant improvement in your free-motion quilting skills as you learn how to:

- pre-train your hands before quilting
- set up a domestic sewing machine for free-motion quilting
- quilt the six basic shapes that make up all quilting designs and learn how to build any quilting design
- join pre-quilted blocks to make a quilt any size AND much more! 

Included in the cost of this class is the Free-Motion- Mastery in a month book by RaNae Merrill and Tool Kit (retail value $109)

Required materials:

- fabric kit (includes quilting cotton, batting and spool of coordinating thread).  Kit must be purchased for this class in our shop (will be available for purchase beginning mid-December). 
 
Required tools:

- pins
- scissors
- seam ripper
- safety pins
- (2) bobbins 

To finish the quilt at home you will also need: 
- rotary cutter and mat
- square ruler 10" or longer 

You may bring your own sewing machine to this workshop, or you are welcome to use the machines in the studio.  If you are bringing your own machine, make sure it is cleaned, lubricated and working properly. You will also need a free-motion quilting foot and know how to attach it. 

We will take a 30 minute lunch break.  Lunch will not be provided.  Students should bring lunch, or plan to order takeout from a local restaurant.

If you are unable to attend, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hrs in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, AND we are able to fill your spot.  Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
