knitting series 301: oaken shawl

During this class students will work on the big cozy Oaken shawl from Tin Can Knits. This class is suitable for our intermediate/ advanced knitters. 

This is a traditional triangular shaped shawl created using increases at the edges & center spine, however in addition it has a beautiful lace panel along the bottom half of the shawl. The lace is a simple pattern using increases & decreases to create the design. It can be worked in 1 or 2 colors, the decision is yours!

Students knitting this shawl will learn how to read a lace chart, make simple increases & decreases, manage their stitches, work flat using a circular needle, change color if required, blocking & many more tips & tricks along the way

The finished shawl measures: 68" wide by 28" long. 

We highly recommend using worsted weight yarn for your project as there is a lot of knitting involved.

There will be the need for homework if you are to come away from class with a completed project

Required materials

Worsted weight yarn, we recommend either (3) Cascade 220 (available here) or (3) Cascade Pacific (available here) or (2) Ecological (available here).
Total yardage required= 620 yards in a single colour or 350 yards each of 2 colours

Please have your yarn wound and ready to knit.
