garment series: dani pants

With the warmer weather coming our way, it's time to start updating your Spring wardrobe! Join our garment instructor Erin for a 2-weekend garment series where we'll make the Dani Pants by True Bias.

The Dani pattern is a partially elastic-waist pant (or shorts) with inseam pockets and rear pockets, a small paper bag waist, and a cuff.  In this class, we will be making View B which are pants that hit at the ankle with an approximate 27-1/2" inseam, featuring a zip fly and two buttons at the waist.

During class, students will learn tons of garment making skills, including how to sew in a zipper, make buttonholes, and attach buttons. This 2-weekend class is suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate students - please note, there is a separate cutting session on Friday, February 27th (6:30pm-8:30pm) that students are required attend. Students who have graduated from our Garment 101 course are encouraged to give this project a go!  Students must know how to confidently thread + operate a sewing machine independently.

Required Materials:
- (1) Pattern: Dani Shorts by True Bias:
        - Paper Pattern: Sizes 0-18 - available to purchase directly in our shop;
        - or PDF Pattern: Sizes 14-32 - **see pattern note below
- light to medium-weight woven fabric - see yardage note below
- 1/3 yd of fabric for pocket lining
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
- 1-1/4 yd of 2" wide elastic
- 1/3 yd of Pellon SF101
- (1) zipper (size depends on what size pants you are making)
- (2) 5/8" buttons

**Pattern Note: FOR PDF PATTERNS ONLY - If you are purchasing a PDF pattern download (Sizes 14-32), please download the pattern HERE and print the pattern and bring it to class the first day.  Your printing options are as follows:
- Print at home on 8.5" x 11" paper and assemble it on your own.  The pattern MUST be brought to class assembled.  There will not be time in class for pattern assembling.
- Or, use a printing service such as PDF Plotting; please make sure you place your order in time to have it shipped to you before the first class (at least one week).

Recommended Fabric:
- We suggest using light to medium-weight woven fabrics, such as linenrayon, or cotton.  Avoid any wovens that are too thick or rigid, as they will create extra bulk at the gathered waistline.
- As with all garment classes, we recommend students pre-wash and dry their fabric prior to the beginning of class to prevent any fabric shrinkage.

Yardage*:
- Total yardage depends on the size of garment being made; please refer to the pattern for accurate measurements. The pattern accommodates Sizes 0-18 (paper pattern) or Sizes 14-32 (PDF pattern).  Students must purchase their fabric from our shop.

Required Tools:
fabric scissors or rotary cutter
seam gauge
seam ripper
