garment series: summer sun hat
Step out into the sun in style this Summer with the Serpentine Hat by Elbe Textiles. Join Katelyn in the studio this June to make your own, just in time for beach or baseball season!
The Serpentine is a wide brim hat that is fully lined and has the ability to be reversible. It's a super quick and cute project to make and is a great way to use up some of your larger scraps from your scrap pile! During this 3-hour class, students will practice sewing curves, topstitching, and working with heavier weight fabrics.
The class is suitable for intermediate level students who have successfully completed at least three sewing projects prior to registering for this class. Students will need to print, cut, and assemble the PDF pattern before class, as well as pre-cut their fabric and interfacing before class.
Finished Hat Dimensions:
- Available in (4) four sizes - XS (21") to L (24").
- Brim Width: 4.7"
*** Important Note - Please Read! ***
- There is no time allotted in class for pattern assembly or cutting of fabric. Please arrive to class with your PDF pattern printed out, cut out, and pieced together. Additionally, please cut out your fabric AND interfacing before class but do not fuse them together - you will do that step in class. The PDF pattern can be downloaded here.
Required Materials:
- (1) PDF Pattern: The Serpentine Hat by Elbe Textiles
- main fabric: 1/2 yd of medium to heavy weight woven fabric, such as quilting cotton, denim or canvas
- lining fabric: 1/2 yd of quilting cotton
- 1 yd of Pellon 808 fusible stabilizer
- (1) spool of coordinating all-purpose thread
Required Tools:
- fabric scissors or rotary cutter + acrylic ruler
- seam ripper
- pins or clips
- chalk or frixion marker
Cancellation Policy:
If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
