bag series: bestie bag

Your cute new sidekick bag awaits! Grab your sewing BFF and join us in the studio this July for a 3-week evening session to make Blackbird Fabric's newly released bag pattern  - the Bestie Bag! Throw it over your shoulder or wear it as a cross-body bag and you're all set to take on your day.

The Bestie Bag is a banana-shaped carry-all companion with four views; in this class, we'll be making View A, which is the medium-sized bag with a flat front and webbing for handles. 

Bestie features two interior pockets - one single pocket and two divided pockets - which are perfect for storing smaller items such as your keys, chapstick and credit cards.  Our shop sample features the "Ooh, Lucky Lucky" Tumbling Blocks canvas fabric for the exterior, Tula Pink's fun coil zipper by the yard + coordinating hardware.

During this 3-week class, students will practice basic bag making skills, including sewing with zippers, installing bag hardware, and attaching cotton webbing for straps.  We'll start off the first class with a cutting session to prepare the fabric, leaving the remaining two classes for bag construction.

This class is suitable for intermediate students who have prior experience making bags and sewing with zippers.  Ideally, students will have sewn at least (2) bags with hardware and zippers prior to registering for this class. Students must be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine independently.

Required Materials:
- (1) PDF Pattern: Bestie Bag by Blackbird Fabrics - **see pattern note below
- 3/4 yd of exterior fabric
- 3/4 yd of lining fabric
- 2 yds of Pellon SF101 (note that we are adding extra interfacing)
- 1-1/2 yds of 1-1/2" wide cotton webbing for straps
- (1) plastic 22" zipper or (plastic) zipper by the yard (note: you will be cutting the 22" zipper down to 15")
- (1) spool of coordinating thread

** Pattern Note: For this class, we will provide the instructions and a printed-out PDF pattern for students.  The cost of the pattern is included in the cost of class.

Recommended Fabrics:
- exterior: canvas, denim, or quilting cotton
- lining: quilting cotton

Required Tools:
- fabric scissors or rotary cutter and acrylic ruler
- seam ripper
- pins and/or wonder clips
- chalk or frixion pen

Cancellation Policy:
If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot.  Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.

No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
