jeans intensive: sew your own jean jacket!

Make your own jean jacket?! YES, you CAN!!! A jean jacket is an iconic wardrobe staple that stands the test of time in any decade or for any generation. Join Erin in the studio this March for an 8-week morning session or this April for a 3-day weekend intensive to make your very own, perfectly customed to fit YOU!
During this intensive, students will make the Audrey Jacket by Seamwork. The Audrey Jacket is a classic design that offers all the bells and whistles of a traditional denim jacket - pockets, buttons, and style! Pattern is available in sizes 0 to 26.

- taking your accurate body measurements
- creating and sewing welt pockets
- sewing cuffs
- sewing a chest pocket flap
- creating and attaching a collar
- creating faux flat fell seams
- installing jeans hardware
- topstitching tricks and tips
Note - Cutting + Fitting Party:
- For our 8-week morning session (Wednesdays, March 5th to April 23rd, 10:30am-12:30pm) the first two classes on Wednesday, March 5th and 12th will consist of the cutting + fitting party.
- For our 3-day weekend intensive (Saturday, April 5th, 10:00am-2:00pm and Saturdays, April 12th + Sunday, April 13th, 10:00am-6:00pm), the cutting session will only be on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm.
8-Week Intensive Breakdown:
- Cutting Party: The first two classes on Wednesday, March 5th + 12th 10:30-12:30 will be reserved for a fitting + cutting party. Please arrive to these classes with your fabric PRE-WASHED! While getting to know each other, Erin will first help you take your measurements properly to determine what size jacket to make. You will cut out the fabric for the jacket during these first two classes and bring it to class with you for the remaining weeks in the session.
- Construction: Construction will begin in the third class on Wednesday, March 19th 10:30am-12:30pm. The remaining class sessions will be spent constructing the jean jacket from start to finish. You will end class on Wednesday, April 23rd with a finished jacket and a whole bunch of new-found knowledge and confidence!
3-Day Intensive Breakdown:
- Cutting Party: Join us for a fun fitting and cutting party on Saturday, April 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Please arrive to the cutting party with your fabric PRE-WASHED! While getting to know each other and snacking on some goodies, Erin will first help you take your measurements properly to determine what size jacket to make. You will cut out the fabric for the jacket during this session and bring it to class with you the following weekend.
- Construction: Class will meet the weekend of Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th from 10:00am-6:00pm each day. These class times will be spent constructing the jean jacket from start to finish. You will leave on Sunday with a finished jacket and a whole bunch of new-found knowledge and confidence!

Who can take this class?
Prior garment sewing experience is required to take this class. Students must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine independently and must have sewn at least one garment pattern prior to attending this class. This class is best suited for intermediate sewists or adventurous beginners with some basic garment sewing experience under their belt.
Required Materials:
- (1) PDF Pattern: Audrey Jacket by Seamwork - **see pattern note below
- fabric: yardage is dependent on size of jacket being made
- 1/2 yd of cotton muslin for pockets
- 1 yd of Pellon SF101 interfacing
- (1) Button Kit - this kit includes (12) 5/8" jeans buttons - available to purchase in the shop!
- (1) Thread Kit - this kit includes topstitch thread and piecing thread - available to purchase in the shop!

**Pattern Note: Students are required to purchase the PDF pattern on Seamwork's website (linked here). Once you have purchased the pattern, please email classes@urbansewciety.com with your receipt or proof of payment and we will print the pattern to scale for you. Students MUST show proof of pattern purchase at least (1) week ahead of the first class (March 5th or April 5th) to ensure we will have it ready for you. Recommended Denim Fabric: (must be purchased in our shop)
- For a classic jean jacket look, we recommend using: Indigo Washed Denim (10 oz.), Bleach Indigo Washed Denim (10 oz.)
- We also have colorful Verhees Denim 9.5 oz options available: Verhees Black Denim, Verhees White Denim, Verhees Ochre Denim, Verhees Mint Denim, and Verhees Taupe Denim.
If you do not wish to use denim, you can substitute it with bottom weight fabrics such as corduroy or twill.
- As with all of our garment classes, we recommend that students prewash and dry their denim before the cutting party on Wednesdays, March 5th + 12th (8-week intensive) OR Saturday, April 5th (3-day intensive). It is recommended that you wash and dry your denim 2-3 times to remove as much shrinkage and indigo bleed as possible.

Cancellation Policy:
If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for this class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
