bag series: get out of town duffel bag

Functional yet stylish, the Get out of Town Duffel Bag from By Annie is a sturdy bag that carries everything you need for a weekend trip, overnight stay, sports practice or serves as a stylish gym bag. The full-zippered top allows easy access to all your belongings and a variety of interior pockets keep everything organized and close at hand! A comfortable, adjustable padded carrying strap plus quick-grab handles make it convenient for all sorts of travel. The finished bag measurements are 10" H x 16" W x 7" D, making it the perfect sized airplane carry-on that fits in the overhead bin.
During this 2-part class, students will learn and practice advanced sewing techniques, such as inserting zippers, making fabric covered straps, installing bag hardware, quilting + binding, and working with mesh material. This class is suitable for intermediate to advanced students who have prior bag making and quilting experience. Students must be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine independently.
Required Materials:
- (1) Pattern: Get out of Town II by By Annie's
- 1 yd of quilting cotton for main fabric (body, ends, pockets, strap pad)
- 1 yd of quilting cotton for lining fabric (interior lining, ends, pockets, strap pad)
- 1-1/4 yd of quilting cotton for coordinating fabric (carrying strap and tabs, handles, interior back pocket, stabilizer sleeve, bindings, zipper pulls)
- 7"x18" of mesh fabric
- 1 yd of Soft & Stable
- 2 yds of 20mm wide fold-over elastic
- 5 yds of 1" wide strapping (will be covered with fabric)
- thread to complement fabrics (for quilting, topstitching, and bag construction)
- (2) zippers: (1) 24" single-side zipper and (1) 30" double-slide zipper OR 1 yard of zipper tape by the yard and 3 zipper pulls
- (2) 1" D-rings
- (2) 1" swivel hooks
- (1) 1" slider
- 1/4 yd of Pellon SF101
- OPTIONAL: (1) base stabilizer measuring 6"x14-3/4" - will be available in the shop soon!

If you are unable to attend, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, AND we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
