garment series: opal pants
What's better than an elastic-waistband pant that is super comfortable but looks dressy enough for work or date night?! The Opal Pants by True Bias are just that!
Join Erin in the studio for a 2-part weekend class to make the Opal Pants. These lightweight pants can be dressed up or down to complete your outfit - match it with a lightweight blazer or cardigan for an elegant look, or keep it casual by pairing it with your favorite blouse.
Opal is a relaxed fit high waist pant with mix and match options. The pattern includes either a paper-bag or standard elastic waistband, inseam or patch pockets, back pockets, belt loops, an optional belt and multiple lengths. View A features a tapered leg with a paper-bag waist and belt, while View B features a wide leg pant with an elastic waist. The pattern accommodates four Views in total, with View C being a pair of shorts with patch pockets and a paper-bag waist, and View D featuring a knee length short with elastic waist and belt. Students will have the option of making either View A or View B in class. The paper pattern accommodates Sizes 0-20, while the PDF pattern accommodates Sizes 14-30 (curve).
During class, students will learn how to insert an elastic waistband, how to sew patch and inseam pockets, how to sew a belt loop, and basic hemming techniques. This 2-part class is suitable for confident beginner to intermediate students who have completed our Garment 101 course or have an equivalent experience level. Students must be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine and should be comfortable using a rotary cutter.
