garment series: corin patchwork top

Patchwork garments are very on trend in ready-to-wear clothing... but why not make your own?! Join Katelyn in our studio this summer to make a completely unique patchwork top using the Corin Top Pattern by Grainline Studio. The Corin is a drapey drop shoulder top with a wide round neckline. The pattern includes two sleeve options – a ruffled cap sleeve and a straight 3/4 length sleeve - students may choose to make either sleeve stylein class.
In this class, students will learn how to piece patchwork squares with a serger, make basic pattern adjustments as needed, and construct the finished garment. Katelyn will give you lots of tips for sewing garments using pieced fabric. Students will work heavily on our classroom sergers; some prior serger experience is required.
This class is suitable for intermediate students who have some prior garment making experience and can confidently use a rotary cutter AND feel comfortable with a serger. Graduates of our Garment 101 class are encouraged to register for this class!
Required Materials:
- (1) Pattern: Corin Top by Grainline Studio - Sizes 0-18 or Sizes 14-32
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
- 2 or 3 coordinating fabrics for patchwork. Fabric requirements will be provided to students via email upon registration
Note: Students will have the option to use sergers threaded with white, black, or navy thread (provided by Urban Sewciety). Any student wishing to use a different colored serger thread must supply their own thread and arrive to class 30 minutes early in order to have the machine threaded and ready to sew.
Recommended Fabrics:
We suggest using very lightweight cotton fabrics, such as lawn, batiste or gingham fabrics for this top. Students may use quilting cotton; however, please be aware that the finished garment will be boxier and have less drape. NO RAYON, please.
Required Tools:
- rotary cutter
- fabric scissors
- acrylic ruler
- chalk or frixion pen
- pins
