garment series: mave skirt
It's almost Summertime, which means that flowy skirts are back in season! Forget scouring the retail shops for the perfect skirt and come make your own.... join us for a 2-part class with our garment instructor Alissa to make the Mave Skirt by True Bias!
The Mave Skirt is an elastic waist skirt with a drawstring, inseam pockets, and optional lining. The skirt can be made with or without ruffles in different lengths, including mini, midi and maxi lengths, depending on your preference. Our shop sample is the 3-tier maxi version, but students will have the option of making the 1-tier (mini), 2-tier (midi) or 3-tier (maxi) skirt in class. We encourage students to get creative with their fabric selections - you can easily customize this skirt to feature 2 or 3 coordinating fabrics to give it that true boho, patchwork inspired look!
During this 2-part Saturday class, students will learn how to make a gathered garment, how to insert inseam pockets, how to insert an elastic waistband and add a drawstring. This garment is a great project for anyone who is looking to gain experience working with drapey, flowy fabrics. The class is suitable for confident beginner to intermediate students who have prior garment sewing experience. Graduates of our Garment 101 class are encouraged to register!

- (1) Pattern: Mave Skirt by True Bias - Sizes 0-18 or Sizes 14-32 **see pattern note below
- fabric for main fabric and optional lining fabric, **see yardage note below
- 1-1/4 yd of 2" wide elastic
- 1"x3" scrap of lightweight fusible interfacing, such as Pellon SF101
- (1) spool of coordinating thread (you may need extra thread for the gathering)
- microtex machine needles
** Pattern Note: The paper format of this pattern is currently sold out and on back order through most providers. However, the PDF format is available for purchase directly on True Bias' website. If you don't already have a paper format of this pattern, you must purchase and download the PDF format and then email us at classes@urbansewciety.com to provide the proof of payment for the pattern. Once we receive that email from you, we will print out the PDF pattern to scale for you and provide it for you on the first day of class. ** Fabric + Yardage Notes: available for purchase in our shop!
- We suggest using light to medium weight fabrics with a 54" or wider drape, such as rayons or cotton lawns.
- Fabric yardage is dependent on the size of garment being made. Please refer to the pattern for accurate sizing details. The pattern accommodates Sizes 0-18 and 14-30.
- As with all garment classes, we recommend that students pre-wash their fabric before attending class to get out any fabric shrinkage before garment construction.

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
