garment series: kalle shirtdress

If you've visited us recently, you couldn't help but notice the beautiful Kalle Shirtdress sample on display as you enter our shop! Well, now it's your turn to make your own with us! Join our talented garment instructor, Lauren, for this 4-week morning series where we will be making View C of this one-of-a-kind shirtdress by Closet Core Patterns.

The Kalle Shirtdress is the ultimate chic dress that you can truly make to fit your own style. The pattern offers three views - View A is cropped with a wide faced hem, View B is a tunic length shirt inspired by classic men's oxfords, and View C is a stylish shirtdress with a high-low hem (this is the style we'll make in class!). All versions feature a subtly curved yoke, kimono sleeves with arm cuffs, and a dramatically shaped hem. One of the main focal points of this garment is the collar, and the pattern gives students the option of making a standard or band collar. No matter which version you make, the Kalle Shirtdress is both stylish AND sophisticated!

During class, students will start off with a cutting session to prepare their fabric, leaving the remaining classes for the construction of the dress. Students will learn how to sew a collar stand, how to sew a bias hem and how to sew a full placket with buttons. Please note, there may be homework assigned by the instructor in order to finish the dress on time.

This class is suitable for our intermediate students who have prior garment sewing experience. Graduates of our Garment 101 class are encouraged to register for this class, as you will reinforce the skills learned in Garment 101 while tackling a few new ones. Students must be able to confidently thread + operate a sewing machine independently.

Recommended Fabric:

- Our sample is made in Fableism's collection "Forest Forage" in "Concord" fabric and we think it suits it perfectly! But, if you choose to pick a different fabric, we recommend choosing linenchambray, or cotton.
Fabric MUST be purchased from our shop. Our staff is more than happy to help you with your selections!
- As with all garment classes, we recommend students wash and dry their fabric prior to the beginning of class to prevent any further fabric shrinkage.
