bag series: alpen belt bag
We've been seeing this adorable quilted cross-body bag everywhere, so we couldn't resist offering it as a class! Join Erin will for a 3-week series to make the quilted Alpen Belt Bag by Center Street Quilts.
The Alpen Bag is a quilted, cross-body zippered bag that is ideal for daily use or attending concerts or sporting events. The main compartment of the bag is perfect to store your phone and wallet, while the two interior slip pockets help keep your credit cards, cash, lip balms and keys safe and contained. Plus, the inside of the bag has completely finished edges with no bias binding or curved seams! The adjustable strap offers flexibility in the appearance, turning the bag into a crossbody or even a fanny pack! The finished dimensions of the bag are 7" long, 4" tall, and 2.5" wide.
During class, students will practice their quilting skills, learn how to bind edges on a bag, how to install hardware, and sew an adjustable strap. This 3-week class is suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate students who have taken our Sewing 101 or Quilting 101 course. Students must be able to confidently thread + operate a sewing machine independently. Please note, there may be homework assigned by the instructor in between classes in order to finish the project on time.
Required Materials:
- (1) Pattern: Alpen Belt Bag by Center Street Quilts (Etsy download)
- (1) spool of coordinating all-purpose thread
- main fabric: (1) fat quarter of quilting cotton
- lining fabric: (1) fat quarter of quilting cotton
- accent fabric: (1) fat quarter of quilting cotton
- (1) zipper: 16" or longer
- (1) Alpen Belt Bag Hardware + Interfacing Kit
- or, if you do not wish to purchase a Hardware + Interfacing Kit, you will need:
- 14"x14" piece of Soft and Stable foam stabilizer
- 9"x7" piece of fusible interfacing (Pellon SF101)
- 1-1/2 yds of 1-1/2" webbing
- (1) 1-1/2" D-ring
- (1) 1-1/2" strap slider
- (1) 1-1/2" swivel hook
- fabric scissors or rotary cutter
- acrylic ruler
- seam ripper
- chalk or frixion marker
- safety pins
- pins or clips
- wonder tape (to attach zipper)

If you are unable to attend, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, AND we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
