garment 201 series: intro to pattern drafting
Learn the basics of pattern drafting with Nancy this Fall! In this 5-week class, students will learn how to take their measurements and draft a simple garment pattern. Nancy will show you how to properly take your measurements, use them to draft a flat pattern of your jacket, create the needed pattern pieces, then sew the garment to completion.
Depending on your fabric choice, you can achieve different looks with this jacket: choose a quilted jacquard to make an open-front coat (like our sample photo), choose a rayon or cotton for a soft kimono-style, or choose a light canvas for a blazer-type look! Garment is unlined with accent fabric at the cuffs only. You'll use a serger to finish the inside seams.
Please note: The first class is 2.5 hours; remaining classes are 2 hours each. Students have the option of enrolling in the morning session starting in September or evening session starting in November - choose whichever works best for you!
Required Materials:
- 2-1/2 yds of Pellon Red Dot Tracing Material - 45" wide
- Fabric*
- Interfacing*
- (1) spool of all-purpose thread to match fabric
**Fabric and interfacing amounts will be determined in the first class after you have drafted your pattern pieces. Please wait until after the first class to purchase your fabric.
Recommended Fabrics:
- We recommend using rayon, lightweight canvas, linen, chambray, light weight wool. Not suitable for stretch or jersey knits.

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
