bag series: crafter's tool bag
Calling all crafters! Join us for a 3-week series class on Monday mornings to make this handy Crafter's Tool Bag by Kandou Patterns! This tool bag is a stylish way to store any craft project or tools you like - store all your crochet hooks, your knitting needles up to 12” long and your sewing or quilting materials. Make it for yourself or gift it to a crafty loved one this holiday season!
The Crafter's Tool Bag is a medium sized bag with 10 external slip pockets for orderly storage of tools, including scissors, rotary cutters, rulers, and more. In addition to the tool bag, the pattern includes instructions for making two storage cubes that sit inside the bag that can easily be taken out, and a handy little pouch for all your bits and pieces that conveniently tucks into the external front slip pocket for safe keeping! Yes, that little flap on the front exterior is actually a handy little notions pouch! The end result is a beautiful quality product - fully lined with external pockets and a stylish but simple zipper placket to keep the bag closed. The storage cubes and pouch are also fully lined. The finished bag measures 13.5" L x 7.5 H" x 6.5 D".
This class is suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate sewists. Students should have prior bag making experience.
Required Materials:
- (1) Crafter's Tool Bag pattern by Kandou Patterns - available on Etsy
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
Fabric Requirements: based on 44" wide fabric
For Main Bag and Storage Cubes:
- main fabric: 1-1/4 yds (cream colored fabric in our sample photo)
- contrast exterior fabric: 1 fat quarter (strawberry fabric in our sample photo)
- lining fabric: 1-3/4 yds
- Pellon SF101 interfacing - 3 yds, 20" wide (see NOTE* below)
- Annie's Soft n Stable foam - 1/2 yd, 58" wide
- (1) 18" zipper
- handles: (1) leather strap, 1" wide x 28" long (2-3mm thickness)
- 2 yards of 1/4" wide drawstring cord for cube inserts - can use leather/cotton/ribbon/twill
*NOTE: If using canvas for the main and lining fabrics, you do not need as much SF101 interfacing
Notions Pouch:
- main fabric: 1 piece of non-directional fabric, 6-3/4" x 13" (faux leather used in our sample photo)
- lining fabric: 6-3/4" x 13"
- (2) magnetic snaps
Suggested Fabric Type:
- Main and Exterior Fabrics: medium weight woven fabric, such as cotton canvas, cotton/linen blend, denim, cotton twill or home decor weight fabric. Waxed cotton or oilcloth can also be used - omit interfacing. Quilting cotton can be used for external slip pockets in conjunction with fusible woven interfacing as specified below.
- Lining: any light to medium-weight woven fabric - medium-weight cotton calico/muslin, ticking fabric or quilting cotton.

- chalk or frixion pen
- pins and/or wonder clips

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
