quilting series: sugar bear quilt
Come and join us this Winter to make the Sugar Bear Quilt by Southern Charm. This beginner-friendly quilt is a spin on the traditional bear claw block. Instead of using half square triangles as the "claws", this pattern uses half rectangle triangles, giving it a more modern look. This quilt is also a sampler, meaning every block is unique!
During this 7-week series, students will be making just the quilt top. Students will reinforce the techniques learned in Quilting 101, plus learn how to work with half-square rectangles, half-square triangles and snowballing. The finished dimensions of the quilt top measure 70"x70".
This class is suitable for advanced beginner students, including those who have completed our Quilting 101 class and are looking advance their skill set. Students must have basic quilting experience and must be able to confidently operate a sewing machine independently. Please note, students will have homework to complete in between classes in order to finish the quilt top within the timeframe of the class. Additionally, there will be a (1) week break in between weeks 6 and 7.
Required Materials: (Quilt Top only)
- (1) Pattern: Sugar Bear Quilt by Southern Charm
- 12-15 fat quarters for foreground in blocks
- 2 FQ for cornerstones (only needed if you want these to be a different fabric from the blocks)
- 4 yds of background fabric (or 4.5 yards if making a scrappy background)
- 1/2 yd for binding
- aurifil thread (50 wt) - available for purchase in our shop
Required Tools:
- rotary cutter and acrylic ruler
- seam ripper
- chalk and/or frixion pen
- pins and/or clips
- detail scissors
- Creative Grids HRT ruler (optional, but highly suggested - will be available in the shop soon!)
Important Information: fabric and materials MUST be purchased from our shop to ensure you have the appropriate materials for class. Our staff is more than happy to help you with your fabric and material selections!
Cancellation Policy:
If you are unable to attend, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, AND we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
