garment series: davenport dress
Springtime is headed our way and what better way to prepare than by adding this beautiful dress to your handmade wardrobe collection! The Davenport Dress by Friday Pattern Co. is the perfect throw-on-and-go dress for the transitional winter-to-spring weather.
The Davenport Dress features full sleeves with an elastic ruffle hem as well as a shoulder flutter detail. The hem hits above the knees but with the ruffled style this would be easy to turn into a maxi. The front neckline is gathered in with elastic, and the waist features a drawstring so the dress can be pulled on and off without any closures. Most importantly, the Davenport features roomy pockets... nothing beats a dress with pockets!
During this 2-week class, students will learn how to sew a yoke using the burrito method and will learn how to sew gathers. Please note that there may be homework in between classes to ensure you finish your dress on time.
This class is suitable for confident beginner to intermediate students, especially recommended for those who have graduated from our Garment 101 class. Ideally, students should have some prior experience with garment sewing, but it is not required. However, students MUST have prior sewing experience and must be able to confidently operate a sewing machine independently.
Students must arrive to class on time, with fabric cut out and ready to sew. We are offering an optional cutting session on Friday, March 8th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm for anyone wishing to determine their size and cut fabric under the guidance of an instructor. Register your seat for the cutting session here!
