quilting series: quiltsmart 'cheater' double wedding ring
Learn how to make the classic Double Wedding Ring quilt in a fraction of the time using Quiltsmart interfacing. Quiltsmart’s motto is “Quilt smarter, not harder!” and it rings true – their time saving products and techniques allow you to make heirloom quality quilts in a lot less time and with tons less frustration (and seam ripping!)
Traditional versions of this quilt involve curved piecing, which can be difficult to learn and execute. The Quiltsmart version involves NO curved piecing! It’s fast and fun to make with this simple method – if you can sew on a line, you can make this quilt. Plus, you can make several variations of the quilt with the same interfacing and template! Jelly rolls work great for this project.
In this class you’ll learn the Quiltsmart method for making a Double Wedding Ring quilt while working on a small sample block. You’ll leave with all the knowledge you need to make a variety of projects!
Required Materials:Students must purchase a kit that includes the following items: (Please note: kits will be available in the shop soon!)
- Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring Template
- (1) Quiltsmart Double Wedding Ring Interfacing Panel
- (1) spool of Aurifil Monfilament thread
Students will need to purchase the following additional items:
- at least 10 to 15 2.5" wide strips of coordinating fabric. Jelly rolls work great for this project
- 3/8" background fabric
- neutral colored thread (best if is similar in color to your background fabric)
Required Tools:
- rotary cutter
- acrylic ruler
