bag series: zip top tote
Who doesn't love a great tote bag? Join us this October in making the Zip Top Tote Bag by Noodlehead! This simple yet sophisticated tote is perfect to use at the farmer's market, as your airline carry-on or even for a quick overnight trip. It features a hidden slip pocket on each side of the exterior to conveniently hold your keys, sunglasses, lip balm or phone. Or with its 12" wide interior zippered pocket, this tote is the perfect project bag with enough space inside to hold all of your pens, markers, brushes, paints and even a small sketchbook!
During the beginning of class, our talented instructor Mandy will start off with a cutting session that will prepare all of your fabrics needed for the project, and then we will begin construction on the tote bag. Students will learn how to sew exterior and interior pockets, how to sew in a zipper and will work with leather straps. You will leave class with new skills learned and a gorgeous tote bag!
The pattern is included in Anna Graham's (Noodlehead) book "Handmade Style". Purchasing the book is optional, but if you want to have a pattern to follow along with during class you must purchase the book. The book is available for purchase in our shop!
This class is recommended for students who have graduated from our Sewing 101 Intensive course or have an equivalent experience level. Ideally, students will have bag making experience, but it is not required. Students must be confident in independently operating a sewing machine.
Required Materials:
- 1/4 yd fabric for top exterior
- 1/2 yd fabric for hidden pocket, exterior
- 3/4 yd fabric for hidden pocket, lining (quilting cotton)
- 1 yd lining (quilting cotton)
- 1 3/4 yds 20" wide woven fusible interfacing (we recommned Pellon SF101)
- 1/2 yd By Annie's Soft and Stable Stabilizer
- 22" non-separating zipper
- 11" non-separating zipper
- (2) 1" x 25" leather straps
Required Tools:
- rotary cutter
- acrylic ruler
- seam ripper
- seam gauge
- chalk or frixion pen
- pins and/or wonder clips
Finished Measurements:
- 13" tall x 21" wide x 6" deep

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
No refunds or credits will be provided if you notify us less than 72 hours in advance. By registering for the class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
