quilting series: cat or dog block pillow

Update your home decor with this adorable cat or dog block pillow by Pen + Paper Patterns! Whether you're more of a cuddly cat lover or tend to adore man's best friend, we have the pattern for you! We encourage you to get creative with your fabric color selections - you can easily create a cat or dog that resembles a beloved family pet and gift it to friends and family for the upcoming holiday season. It's a perfectly thoughtful and handmade gift!

Students get to choose which animal pattern they'd like for their pillow. We will be working with Pen + Paper Patterns' Kitten Around Quilt pattern or the Dog Pile Quilt pattern. Please note, these patterns are for the completed quilt size, however in class we will only be making a block that we will turn into an 20" square inch decorative pillow. 

Students will learn accurate cutting and tiny piecing methods, as well as how to insert a lapped zipper closure on the back of the pillow. Additionally, for students making the Kitten Around block pillow, you will learn foundation paper piecing!

This four-week class is recommended for our quilting 101 graduate students, intermediate level sewists, or those with an equivalent experience level.

Required Materials:
- (1) Kitten Around Quilt Pattern OR (1) Dog Pile Quilt Pattern, by Pen + Paper Patterns
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
- (1) 20" pillow form

Kitten Around Pattern: (please note, this pattern has paper piecing)
- 1/3 yd: kitten body
- 5" scrap: kitten eyes
- 5" scrap: kitten mouth
- 5" scrap: kitten nose + inner ears
- 1/4 yd: kitten belly, tail, whiskers + outer ears
- 1/8 yd: yarn ball color 1
- 1/8 yd: yarn ball color 2
- 5/8 yd: back of pillow
- 1/2 yd for background fabric
- 22" zipper
- 25" square batting for quilting

Dog Pile Pattern:
- 1/8 yd of fabric for collar
- 1/4 yd of fabric for bone
- 1 fat eighth for eyes + nose
- 1/3 yd of 2 fabrics for dog body
- 5/8 yd of fabric for back of pillow
- 1/2 yd of background fabric
- 22" zipper
- 25" square batting for quilting

Required Tools:
- rotary cutter
- acrylic ruler
- add a quarter ruler (only for Kitten Around pattern)
- fabric scissors
- curved basting pins
- pins and/or clips

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email and there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot.  Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
