garment 201 series: intro to knits

Want to learn how to sew with knits? Our Intro to Knits series is perfect for those who live in jersey tees but don't know where to start when it comes to sewing with knits.  Knits have a reputation for being more difficult to sew with but with the guidance of our garment instructor, Erin, you will gain a bunch of new skills that will make sewing with knits a breeze!

During this 3-week class, students will be making the Waterfall Raglan by Chalk & Notch.  The Waterfall Raglan is a stylish alternative to a t-shirt and features a relaxed, swing shape. The sleeve has a slim fit with three length options: short, 3/4, and long sleeve. (Please note: we will be using View A in class). We suggest using light to medium weight fabric for this top.

Skills that you will learn in this class:
- how to cut out knit fabrics
- using an overlocker
- sewing knit fabrics on a standard sewing machine and choosing the correct needle for your fabric
- how to hem your knit garment

This class is perfect for sewists who have completed our Garment 101 or those who have an equivalent skill level. We recommend that you have made a few garments using woven fabrics already and are not totally new to garment sewing. Please Note: This course is designed with enough work time that you should be able to finish the garments but there may be homework to finish within the course time frames.
