This 5-part series is the perfect next step to our knitting 101. Choose your next project from a selection of four specially selected knitting patterns which will build confidence in basic skills.
Choose from the following four projects:
- baby cardigan
- classic knit hat
- snuggly cowl
- modern first shawl
Baby Cardigan: this is a great project for learning increases, decreases + buttonholes
Students will be taken through the steps of making this simple, super cute baby cardigan. The pattern is knit from top down and is a raglan construction. The cardigan can be made in sizes: preemie, 0-3mo, 3-6mo, 6-12mo.
Required Materials: (must be purchased in the shop)
- (1) #31 paper pattern by Melina Goodfellow
- US 6 24" circular needle and US 8 24" circular needle
- worsted weight yarn, we recommend Berroco Vintage or Malabrigos Rios
- (3) buttons, sizes 5/8"
Classic Knit Hat:
Students will be taken through this project step by step, and will be taught knits, purls, rib stitch, decreases + working in the round.
Required Materials: (must be purchased in the shop)
- (1) classic knit hat pattern by Haley Scaprine, free download on Ravelry
- US 8 16" circular needle and US 8 DPNs
- worsted weight yarn, we recommend Cascade 220, Berroco Vintage or Malabrigo Rios.
Simple Cowl - Oats:
This simple, snuggly cowl by Tin Can Knits builds confidence with working in the round as well as long tail cast on.
Required Materials: must be purchased in the shop
- (1) oats cowl pattern by Tin Can Knits, free download on Ravelry
- US 8 16" circular or US 8 32" circular needles (worsted weight, for added length version)
- US 6 16" circular or US 6 32" circular needles (dk weight, for longer version)
- for worsted weight yarn, we recommend Cascade 220, Berroco Vintage or Malabrigo Rios
- for bulky weight yarn, we recommend Berroco Wizard
- for dk weight yarn, we recommend Berroco Vintange DK, Malabrigo Arroyo or Berroco Vento
Modern First Shawl:
The grain pattern by Tin Can Knits is a triangular shawl knit in the traditional way with increases at the edges and down the center spine. The finished shawl measures 63" wide by 23" long. It can be knit using 1, 2 or 3 colors to create a big cozy shawl. Students knitting this shawl will learn simple increases, how to manage large numbers of stitches, work flat using a circular needle, change color (if needed) and blocking.

- US 9 32" circular needle or US 7 32" circular needle
- for worsted weight yarn, we recommend Cascade 220, Berroco Vintage, Malabrigo Rios
- for dk weight, we recommend Malabrigo Arroyo, Berroco Vintage DK or Berroco Vento
For all of our knitting classes, please come to class with your yarn wound ready to knit. We can wind the yarn for you in the shop, we just ask that you give us 72 hours notice.

If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hours in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
