garment series: summer sun hat
Step out into the sun in our favorite Summer hat, The Serpentine by Elbe Textiles. This hat is the perfect summer essential; it has a wide brim and is fully lined. Even better its reversible!
The pattern comes in four sizes; 21-24 inch head circumference. Finished brim width is 4.7".
This class is suitable for intermediate sewists.
Students must arrive to class on time, with all materials purchased. As with all garment classes we strongly recommend you wash and dry your fabric in advance of the class.
Required Materials:
- The Serpentine Hat pattern, available as a digital download here. Please ensure you pattern is printed and cut out prior to class.
- (1/2 yd ) Main fabric, we recommend a medium/heavy weight woven fabric that holds their structure, ie denim or canvas.
- (1/2 yd) Lining fabric, quilting cotton.
- (1/2 yd) 808 fusible stabilizer (optional but recommended if you want a stiffer brim)
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
Required Tools:
- Rotary Cutter, cutting mat and acrylic ruler OR fabric scissors
- Pins and/or wonder clips (pins are recommended for garment projects)
- seam ripper
- seam gauge
- marking tool, chalk or frixion pen
If you are unable to attend the class, a refund will only be provided if you notify us 72 hrs in advance in writing by email, there is a waitlist for the class, and we are able to fill your spot. Otherwise, a credit for a future class will be issued.
