bag series: portside duffle bag



The portside travel set features everything you need in a weekender bag. 
The pattern allows for making the duffle bag, a travel pouch, and a roomy dopp bag and provides details on material quantities to make all three. Please note, in this class, we will be making the duffle bag only. The details below are for the duffle bag quantities only. 

The duffle bag (as pictured) features handles that can be carried or slung over the shoulder as well as a removable adjustable strap. It measures 20"L x 11.5"W x 12"H. Techniques involved include sewing a straight seam, inserting a zipper and basic hand sewing. 

Required materials (for the duffle bag only and based on 45" wide fabric):

- Grainline Studio Portside Travel Set Pattern available here
- Exterior Fabric A 1 yard
- Exterior Fabric B 2/3 yard
- Lining Fabric 1 1/2 yard
- Fusible Interfacing 2 2/3 yard
- (2) 1 1/2" D rings
- 5 yards of 1 1/2" wide webbing
- (2) 3" long metal swivel bolt snaps (hooks)
- (1) 21" zipper

Suggested fabrics: Medium to heavyweight fabrics such as canvas, twill and more fabric labeled home dec weight. Lighter fabric can be used but may need to be more heavily interfaced or interlined. Quilting cotton for the lining. 

Required Tools: 
- Tape Measure 
- Rotary Cutter and Acrylic Ruler OR Fabric scissors
- Pins and/or wonder clips (pins are recommended for garment projects)
- seam ripper
- chalk or friction pen
- seam gauge

We have modified our classes to comply with the CDC guidelines and NJ Executive Order 152. Classes will be limited to six students, their stations will be at least 6 feet away from each other and whilst they are able to maintain social distancing students are not required to wear a mask, however where social distancing cannot be maintained (e.g. moving around the classroom) masks will be required, so please ensure you bring one. The instructor will be wearing one. In addition, students are required to supply their own tools as identified in the tools list above.

Students must arrive to class on time, with all materials purchased and cut ready to start construction. To assist students we are offering a Friday night cutting session available here.  

All materials are available in our shop at 15% discount to enrolled students
