crochet series: introduction to crochet

The French term "crochet" meaning small hook, is used to name the art of pulling loops of yarn through existing loops to create a textile, and Dani will show you how to do it!

In this "introduction to crochet" class, students will learn how to make a basic loop chain, single crochet stitch, and double crochet stitch. They will also learn how to crochet flat or in the round, and how to change colors with their yarn.

Class one will focus on learning the stitches and techniques mentioned above with scrap yarn. Towards the end of the class, students will be taught how to read a basic crochet pattern, cast on their chosen project and take it home to be worked on in between the two classes.

In class two students will have the chance to finish the body of their work and be taught how to complete their projects with finishing techniques such as binding the last stitch and weaving the ends.

Students may choose a project from the following options, no pattern necessary, all instructions will be provided in class:

- granny stripe blanket (won't be finished in class)
- granny stripe scarf
- granny stripe wrap
