knitting series: stranded colorwork knitting

Looking to create patterns in your knitting using two or more different colors of yarn? Then you will need to learn stranded colorwork knitting. 

In this two-class lesson, you will learn how to:
- create patterns in your knitting using two different colors of yarn
- carry your yarns behind your work to create floats
- hold your yarns for ease switching between colors
- follow a simple chart for knitting colorwork in the round
- decrease using stitch knit 2 together (K2tog)
- use Double Pointed Needles (DPNs) for small circumference knitting, decreasing at the top of the hat
- finish off the hat with an optional pompom

A command of long tail cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch and familiarity with knitting in the round are necessary to take this course. For those students who are not familiar with knitting in the round we are offering a quick catch up class in the half-hour in advance of the first of these classes. Please ensure you sign up here

Required Materials:
- Little Frankie Hat pattern by Casapinka - available here 
- two DK weight yarns (contrasting but complementary colors), please ensure you wind these yarns ready to use prior to the class unless they were purchased in a ball shape.
- Needles listed in the pattern: US5 16" circular; US6 16" circular; set of 5" Double Pointed Needles in size US6

Things to do in advance of the first class:

Please read the pattern in advance of the class to decide which size you want to make 
With the smaller needle, cast-on the amount of stitches for the size you chose, join for working in the round and complete the initial 12 rounds of ribbing stitch.  
Have larger US6 circular needles ready. It is here we will begin the class.
