sew your own jeans intensive

Make your own jeans with Jeans Queen Lauren Taylor!

Take your sewing to the next level and make your own custom jeans! While sewing jeans seems like it would be difficult, it doesn't have to be - and instructor Lauren Taylor is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be.

Students will make the Ginger Jeans from Closet Case Patterns* - a classic skinny jean made with stretch denim.  Students can choose to make the high-rise version OR the mid-rise version (mid-rise pattern available in PDF format).  We will cover everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans that fit YOU just right! This includes choosing the correct size, performing minor pattern alterations and basic fitting adjustments, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware!

* Please Note: The Ginger jeans pattern is available in sizes 0-20. For sizes 20-28, students can opt to use the Ames Jeans from Cashmerette.  Male students can choose to use either the Quanda or Fulford jeans patterns from Thread Theory.

The weekend begins with a fitting party on Friday night.  While getting to know each other and snacking on some yummy goodies (BYO beverage!), Lauren will first help you choose your size (we will have several pre-made samples of the Ginger Jeans in various sizes so you can try them on!) Then we'll get to cutting and marking your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and continue through the weekend. You will leave with not only a new pair of jeans, but also the knowledge and empowerment to make more on your own.

Included in the cost of the class:

- 18 hours of sewing instruction!
- Snacks on Friday night and lunch on Saturday and Sunday
- Ginger Jeans Pattern

Fabric and Hardware Kits must be purchased before class and will be available for purchase in our shop beginning mid-November.  Kit will include everything beyond fabric that is needed to complete your jeans: interfacing, zipper, thread, rivets, buttons, and machine needles.

Prior sewing experience is required to take this class. You must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine, and have sewn at least one garment pattern. This class is best suited for intermediate seamstresses or adventurous beginners with a little experience under their belt.

*Due to the unique nature of this class, the cost of tuition is non-refundable.  However, if you cannot make the class you may transfer registration to a friend or to an individual on the wait list.
