Explorations in Quilting - String Blocks

Continue on your quilting journey in Explorations in Quilting! For our next adventure, we will be working on a unique approach to the traditional string block. String blocks traditionally are pieced with a foundation, but in this course we will be going foundation free!

This 8-week course is intended for intermediate and advanced sewists to brush up and fine-tune their skills while learning a new approach to a timeless technique. This class is also appropriate for an adventurous beginner with quilting experience to come and learn more about the craft while practicing the necessary quilting/sewing foundation skills.

Under the guidance of the instructor, Meg Fahrenbach of Tea + Brie, the class will focus on helping students master the ¼” and scant ¼” seam allowance while working and sewing with bias cuts and seams. Students will learn how to pay attention to details in order to successfully piece these seemingly simple blocks.

As with all Explorations in Quilting classes, students will be provided with all required information to create a base project (pillow, small quilt, throw quilt, etc.), but are invited/encouraged to develop their own project (tote bag, table runner, etc. etc.) with help from the instructor for the blocks.
